We are often faced with the task of reproducing and restoring photographs that are not entirely intact. Portraits similar to this example were mounted on to board and often framed using convex or “bubble” glass. Over the years, especially if removed from the original frame they become very brittle and are prone to breakage. This example like many others also has missing peices, which were recreated during the restoration. Interestingly the original was produced as a photo montage in the early 20′s from two seperate photographs.

Here is an example of a family history collage, similar to many that we have created in recent months. They are popular as a gift for special occasions such as milestone birthdays, anniversaries, weddings and retirements.

Customers generally bring in a collection of photographs, slides, negatives and digital images to begin with. We then spend time consulting so we can bring out a story in the arrangement, and noting which images are most important. We then produce a rough draft from which the customer can provide feedback before final completion.

Here is one the latest restorations we have worked on. The original image seemed to have been poorly processed and as a result heavy staining had occured.
